    Hi Fellows,

I am the winner of the Atragon DVD-yes, please go ahead and sign it ;), it will remind me of that time I actually won something πŸ™‚

As to Ishihara Satomi “Kayoko Ann Patterson” being nominated for best supporting actress in the 40th Japan Academy Prize…my spoken English is far better than hers and she came off sounding quite bad to me. However, English in Japanese public schools is largely taught by non-native speakers using rote memorization. Ishihara-san’s English sounds pretty much like you would hear in a typical high school classroom teaching English so to most Japanese listeners, it would not sound odd at all.

As to her performance, she was likely nominated because it was seen as a somewhat ‘dark’ comedic performance-she was playing the negative stereotype of Americans, that of a bullying loudmouth who thinks they know what is best for everyone, but at the same time a loudmouth who really does wish to be helpful and kind. Having her be a woman and Japanese-American just made it funnier for many.

Myself, I hope Ichikawa Mikako wins πŸ™‚

Also, I left a review on Itunes for the podcast today, but since I have an account with the Japanese store I do not know if it will show up on American Itunes.

Private message me on twitter with your address πŸ™‚ Thank you so much for your comments and they will certainly be discussed on the destroy all monsters episode. Your counter-opinion (somewhat) on her acting is much appreciated and certainly not the norm in the fandom XD gotta be appreciated for that, plus good explanation for her acting choices. I love it

Twitter did not give me the option to PM you, so I left a message on this page’s ‘contact us’ tab under the ‘prize claim’ heading

        1. Drew Daybell says:

And your prize has been sent off! Thank you πŸ™‚

I recently discovered your podcast, and I’m working my way through the feed, so I just listened to this episode despite its age.
When I heard “Hail to the King”, I didn’t think Evil Dead, I assumed it was a reference to the King of the Monsters.
